So today (technically Mar.10) I’m officially a grandfather. Whether I’ll be Grandpa, Gramps, or I’m thinking Poppa, I am still very happy and can’t wait to meet the new addition. His name is Madden, 9 pounds 5 ounces, and he is cute as a button. Officially it happened last night around 8 pm and while we couldn’t be there we were with our daughter in spirit.
Yesterday, the 10th, was also a special day for her, although perhaps special is not the right word. Her old boss passed away about a year ago and yesterday was his birthday. She had a love/hate relationship with him, but regardless of that she had high regard for him and he had a significant impact in her life. I am a bit jealous of that, and I’m hoping that’s normal. A fathers relationship with his daughter is special and when another man enters that there’s bound to be some feelings. I did like him though, he was that kind of man, a bigger than life individual who could draw others to him. He was a special man and he will be missed. So to have Madden born on that day also will bring special meaning. I can hope he will also grow to be a strong individual, much like his parents, and take the world by storm.
So the cycle of life continues. A force has left this earth and a new one has entered. I hope to be a significant character in Madden’s growth, someone he can look to for guidance and strength, never to usurp his parents but to support and give additional love and guidance. This is the way it should be.
